This
All-inclusive (Genesis to Revelation), Awe-inspiring, Action-encouraging
Bible curriculum grew out of the Directed Teaching Department
(now called the Bible Teaching Program) at Columbia Bible
College, a division of Columbia International
University), in Columbia, SC. That program began in
the heart of Dr. R. C. McQuilkin, first president of the college,
and was developed by Miss Sara Petty, whom Dr. McQuilkin asked
to head the department beginning in 1945.
In
the department's sixth year, Miss Sarah Overstreet became
Miss Petty's assistant. She wrote down many of Miss Petty's
ideas, and later expanded on them. In succeeding years, Miss
Overstreet developed a four-volume Bible Workbook Series for
teaching Bible in public schools, expanded the original Bible
curriculum for use in Christian Schools, grades 4 - 12, and
wrote three teacher training books. Since the Bible lessons
were originally written for public schools, they are virtually
free from denominational distinctives, so have proved valuable
to Christian workers of all persuasions.
By
combining various parts of this curriculum, it is possible
to cover the entire Bible in four depth levels:
1.
SUMMARY: One, two, three or four lessons
2. OVERVIEW: Fifteen lessons
3. SURVEY: 334 lessons, 36 tests and 7 exams
4. DETAILED STUDY: 690 lessons, 54 tests and 9 exams
so far, with more being added as the Lord enables.
This
Bible curriculum also includes two topical courses.
Each
lesson is composed mostly of skillfully-worded questions that
lead the learner step by step through the Bible passage or
topic to DISCOVER FOR HIMSELF
1. The Bible facts,
2. The parallel principle which may be discerned from those
facts, and finally
3. The application of that principle to his own immediate
needs.
The
title of the original four volumes was Bible Workbook Series;
but as those mimeographed pages began being put into print
in 1973, the title of the series was changed to Bible Discoveries
to reflect the basic philosophy of the series. Since 1995,
International Teachers Association
has been helping put the lessons on computer to make a more
user-friendly edition for worldwide distribution through this
storefront.
The
author early discovered through her own teaching experience
that her type of Bible discovery was too difficult for learners
in Grade 3 and below. Ever since then, she has been praying
that God would burden someone with expertise in that area
to write lessons for these younger learners that would be
compatible with her "discovery" philosophy of teaching and
learning. Recently, she has been negotiating to purchase just
such a curriculum, and, Lord willing, it too will be made
available as soon as possible; so there will be a complete
Bible curriculum for Preschool through Grade 12 that emphasizes
the "discovery" philosophy.
Only
the teacher training materials and a few units of the Bible
Discoveries series are available now for distribution in their
old printed format, and two units of the new computerized
editions; but others will be made available as editing is
completed. So you may see just what we expect will eventually
be available, the Power Point presentation lists all parts
of the Bible Discoveries curriculum and the new curriculum
for Preschool through Grade 3. The catalog describes all parts
of the curriculum for Grades 4 - 12 the author has completed
so far, and gives the suggested donation for each once the
new edition is available, with an asterisk (*) indicating
those not ready as yet. The Order Form in the catalog and
the second Order Form under ORDER NOW also list all parts
of the Grades 4-12 curriculum. As soon as editing is completed
on any book, those who express an interest in that particular
book will be notified by e-mail. A short Order Form listing
only items available now appears first under ORDER NOW.
